governance
Focus North is a not-for-profit partnership with a strong governance framework encompassing input from the public and private sectors as well as elected members, academia and the diverse communities we serve.
three-tier model
Our Executive Board comprises the senior leadership team of our core partners. Its role is to set our strategic direction, aligning with individual corporate plans.
Our Advisory Board is made up of representatives from local businesses, major employers, transport providers, ports, local government and the third sector. It provides a crucial sense-check that our priorities reflect what matters at a local level.
Our Delivery Group is the engine of Focus North, with representatives from each of the partners. It translates strategy into action, delivering on our programme goals.
partners
Our partnership brings together the local and the national, public and private, working towards the shared objective of driving growth in the North Highlands.
our area of focus
As our name suggests, our area of focus is unashamedly the ‘north’.
The North means different things depending on where you live. For us, the North is the north of mainland Scotland. This generally encompasses the county of Caithness and the north part of neighbouring Sutherland.
However, we do not draw an arbitrary line on a map. While our core activities focus on North Highland, developments in the islands, Cromarty Firth and central belt can and do benefit our region. We do not take a parochial view of economic growth.
We regularly exchange ideas and feedback with:
- The Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Freeport
- The European Marine Energy Research Centre (Orkney)
- M-Sparc, Wales
- LEVELS, West Cumbria
These organisations and many others provide inspiration and challenge – highlighting the possibilities that can be realised when political will and local action align.
